Strong magnets (51)
Are you looking for a magnet that really holds? Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets available. How strong a magnet holds depends mainly on its size, the grade (such as N48 or N52), and whether it is housed in a steel pot. Here you will find our strongest magnets together: large block and disc magnets and pot magnets, with a holding force of up to approx. 350 kg for the largest block magnet.
Which strong magnet is right for your application?
| You want | Choose |
|---|---|
| As much strength as possible and screw the magnet in or hang it somewhere | A large pot magnet, magnet with hook or magnet with eye: the steel pot concentrates the force on one side |
| To install or glue in a strong magnet | A large block magnet or disc magnet |
| Strength without scratching paint | A pot magnet with a rubber coating |
| A strong, flat attachment over a larger surface | A magnet strip made of neodymium (450 g/cm²) |
What does the strength of a magnet depend on?
- Size: a larger magnet holds more. For disc and rod magnets, the diameter is especially important.
- Grade: for the same dimensions, N52 is stronger than N42 or N35. See what N35 to N52 means.
- Steel pot: a pot magnet is several times stronger than a loose magnet of the same size.
- Surface: thick, flat, bare steel provides the most holding force. Paint, rust, a thin plate, or a gap reduce this.
- Direction: pulling perpendicularly gives the full holding force; on a vertical wall, a magnet can slide off at around 15 to 20% of that.
The stated holding force is measured under ideal conditions; in practice, it is lower. Read the difference between holding force, pulling force, and working load or calculate what you need with the Magnet Advisor.
Working safely with strong magnets
Large neodymium magnets pull together and towards steel with enormous force. They can pinch fingers and crack or splinter if they hit something hard. Wear gloves and safety goggles, keep them away from pacemakers, electronics, and bank cards, and separate them by tilting or sliding them. Frequently asked questions
What is the strongest magnet?
Neodymium magnets are the strongest permanent magnets available. Within neodymium, N52 is the strongest grade in our range. If you want to hold as much weight as possible with one magnet, choose a large pot magnet or a large block. Read the full story in What is the strongest magnet? and more background in neodymium, ferrite, or samarium-cobalt.
What is the difference between super magnets and neodymium magnets?
None: super magnet is another name for a strong neodymium magnet.
Do I always need the strongest magnet?
No. A magnet that is too strong is difficult to separate and can be dangerous. Choose a magnet with more than enough holding force for your application, or distribute the weight over several magnets. If you are looking for a compact size, check out the small magnets.
Do I get a discount for larger quantities?
Yes. You automatically receive tiered discounts; for magnets from €50 each, starting from 2 pieces. For large quantities, request a quote using the Request a Quote button on the product page.
