Strong magnets (51)
Are you looking for a magnet that really holds? Neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets available. How strongly a magnet holds depends primarily on its size, the grade (such as N48 or N52), and whether it is encased in a steel pot. Here you will find our strongest magnets collected together: large block and disc magnets and pot magnets with a holding force of over 100 kg.
Which strong magnet fits your application?
| You want | Choose |
|---|---|
| Maximum strength and to screw the magnet on or hang something from it | A large pot magnet, magnet with a hook or magnet with an eyelet: the steel pot concentrates the power to one side |
| To build in or glue a strong magnet | A large block magnet or disc magnet |
| Strength without scratching paint | A pot magnet with a rubber coating |
| A strong, flat attachment over a larger surface | A neodymium magnetic strip (450 g/cm²) |
What does the strength of a magnet depend on?
- Size: a larger magnet holds more. For disc and rod magnets, the diameter is the most important factor.
- Grade: for the same size, N52 is stronger than N42 or N35. See what N35 to N52 mean.
- Steel pot: a pot magnet is several times stronger than a loose magnet of the same size.
- Surface: thick, flat, bare steel provides the most holding power. Paint, rust, a thin plate, or a gap will reduce it.
- Direction: pulling perpendicularly provides the full holding power; on a vertical wall, a magnet will slide away at approximately 15 to 20% of that force.
The stated holding power is measured under ideal conditions; in practice, it will be lower. Read about the difference between holding power, pull force and workload or calculate what you need with the Magnet Advisor.
Working safely with strong magnets
Large neodymium magnets attract each other and steel with enormous force. They can pinch fingers and crack or shatter upon impact. Wear gloves and safety goggles, keep them away from pacemakers, electronics, and bank cards, and detach them by sliding or tilting. Frequently asked questions
What is the strongest magnet?
Neodymium magnets are the strongest permanent magnets in existence. Within neodymium, N52 is the strongest grade in our range. If you want to hold as much weight as possible with a single magnet, choose a large pot magnet or a large block. More background in neodymium, ferrite, or samarium-cobalt.
What is the difference between super magnets and neodymium magnets?
None: "super magnet" is just another name for a strong neodymium magnet.
Do I always need the strongest magnet?
No. A magnet that is too strong can be difficult to remove and can be dangerous. Choose a magnet with sufficient holding power for your application, or distribute the weight across multiple magnets. If you are looking for a compact size, check out our small magnets.
Do I get a discount for larger quantities?
Yes. You automatically receive volume discounts; for magnets priced from €50 each, this starts at just 2 pieces. For large quantities, request a quote using the "Request a quote" button on the product page.
