Grill for the gas shut-off valve: gone in no time with ring magnets

Pieter made the grille for his gas shut-off valve removable with four ring magnets. No need to unscrew anything: you can simply remove the grille whenever you need to access the shut-off valve.

You want to cover a gas shut-off valve properly, but you also need to be able to access it quickly. Customer Pieter found a clever solution: the grille for his gas shut-off valve is held in place by four ring magnets. When he needs to access the valve, he removes the grille in one motion. No screwdriver needed.

Why magnets work so well here

  • Quickly accessible: with a gas shut-off valve, you don't want to unscrew anything first. With magnets, you can remove the grille instantly.
  • Still secure: the grille stays firmly in place, even in the wind or if someone walks past.
  • Suitable for outdoor use: the magnets have a plastic coating that protects them from moisture and dirt.
  • Neatly screwed in: thanks to the countersunk hole, the magnets screw in flush.

Which magnets did Pieter use?

Pieter used four ring magnets Ø17.5 x Ø8.1 x 4.75 mm with a plastic coating and countersunk hole. Each magnet has a holding force of approx. 2.2 kg, measured on thick, flat steel. For a light grille, four are more than enough.

  • Is your grille made of stainless steel? Much stainless steel is not or barely magnetic. In that case, screw a steel washer or a second magnet as a counterpiece onto the grille.
  • Choose the corners: place a magnet in each corner, and the grille will fit nicely and flush.
  • Keep the ventilation clear: a grille at a gas connection is often also there for airflow. So leave the openings clear.
  • Check the coating occasionally: outdoors, the plastic layer can become damaged over time. You can easily replace a damaged magnet.
