The liberation fire from Bayeux to Eindhoven, with a magnet on the bicycle

Every year on September 18, Eindhoven commemorates the liberation of the city by British and American troops in 1944. The highlight of this commemoration is the arrival of the liberation flame, which is brought by bicycle and on foot from Bayeux in France to Eindhoven. For that journey, Magnetenspecialist supplied the magnet with which the flame was secured to the bicycle.

From Bayeux to Eindhoven

A magnet for the flame

For the transport of the liberation flame from Bayeux to Eindhoven, Magnetenspecialist supplied a ferrite ring magnet with a diameter of 100 mm. We donated this magnet to Stichting 18 September as a small contribution to a special tradition.

Ferrite magnets are robust, corrosion-resistant, and suitable for a wide range of applications. What sets ferrite apart from neodymium, you can read in Neodymium, ferrite or samarium-cobalt: what is the difference?. Their ring shape also offers various mounting options. Which mounting method is most suitable depends on the construction, the surface, and the forces that occur during use.

In applications on moving vehicles, not only the magnetic holding force, but also vibrations and lateral forces play an important role. The stated holding force of a magnet therefore does not tell you everything about its suitability for a specific application.

You can read more about this in our article about holding force, pulling force and working load.

Proud to contribute

As a company from the Eindhoven region, we feel connected to the history of our city. The annual journey from Bayeux to Eindhoven shows how important it is to keep the memory of our liberation alive.

We find it special that we were able to make a small contribution to this tradition with the donation of a ferrite ring magnet.

Because sometimes even a small technical contribution has a greater meaning.
