Disc magnets (105)
Disc magnets are round neodymium magnets with a high holding force relative to their size. At Magnetenspecialist, you can find them from Ø2 to Ø80 mm, in grades N35 to N52. Each magnet lists its dimensions, grade, coating, and holding force, so you can quickly find the right size. In stock? Which disc magnet should you choose?
How much a magnet holds depends mainly on the diameter and thickness. Choose per application:
| Application | Suitable size | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Model building, sensors, small closures | Ø3 to Ø6 mm | Ø5 x 3 mm |
| Flaps, small cabinet doors, displays | Ø8 to Ø12 mm | Ø10 x 3 mm |
| Light applications without drilling or screws | self-adhesive, Ø10 to Ø22 mm | Ø10 x 1 mm self-adhesive |
| Cabinet doors, furniture and interior construction, motorhomes and caravans, trade show stands and signs | Ø15 to Ø25 mm | Ø20 x 5 mm |
| Machine building, workshop, warehouse | Ø30 to Ø50 mm | Ø30 x 10 mm or Ø40 x 20 mm |
| Screw-in industrial magnet | Ø60 and Ø80 mm with countersunk hole | Ø60 x 25 mm |

Special versions
In addition to the standard nickel-plated disc magnets, we have versions for specific situations: self-adhesive magnets for sticking, epoxy-coated magnets for a damp environment, plastic-coated magnets in color and rubber-coated magnets that stay scratch-free on a surface. Diametrically magnetized disc magnets have their poles on the round side instead of on the flat sides.
What do you see with every disc magnet?
- Dimensions: diameter and thickness in millimeters
- Grade: N35 to N52. The number indicates the strength class; for the same size, a higher number is stronger. We sell N35 disc magnets while supplies last; for most applications we recommend N48 or higher.
- Coating: usually NiCuNi (nickel-copper-nickel), additionally epoxy and versions with rubber or plastic coating
- Holding force: in kilos or grams, measured on a flat steel plate
- Maximum temperature: 80 °C for the standard versions
The holding force is measured under ideal conditions; in practice, the actual holding force is lower. Read how holding force is determined or view the difference between holding force, pulling force and working load.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if a magnet is strong enough?
Look at the holding force and calculate generously: take a magnet with a holding force that is at least several times higher than the weight it has to carry, or use multiple magnets distributed over the surface. A rough, painted, or curved surface reduces the holding force. The Magnet Advisor calculates it for you.
Does a disc magnet work through wood, glass, or a whiteboard?
Yes, but every millimeter between the magnet and steel (or the second magnet) costs force. Through a few millimeters, a thicker magnet works better than a thin one with the same diameter. If in doubt, choose a larger size.
How do I attach a disc magnet?
Glue it with a two-component glue, countersink it into a suitable hole, or choose a self-adhesive version. If you want to screw it, choose a ring magnet with countersunk hole. More tips in How do you mount a magnet?
How do I make sure two magnets attract each other?
First place them together as they should click and mark the outside with a marker. This way you build them in with the right side up.
What is the difference between N35, N42, N48 and N52?
The number indicates the strength class: for the same size, a higher class is stronger. How much exactly, you can see from the holding force of each product. Read more in What do N35, N42, N48 and N52 mean?
Can I use disc magnets in jewelry?
Only enclosed, for example as a closure in a piece of jewelry, and not against the skin. The NiCuNi coating contains nickel, which can cause a reaction in case of nickel allergy.
What is the difference between self-adhesive and non-self-adhesive?
Self-adhesive disc magnets have an adhesive layer, so you can stick them without drilling or screws. For heavier loads, you choose a non-self-adhesive size that you glue in or build in.
Are disc magnets safe?
Magnets are not toys and should be kept out of reach of children. Keep them away from pacemakers, electronics, and bank cards. Larger magnets can slam hard against each other or against metal; keep your fingers away.
I need hundreds of disc magnets for production. What is the most convenient way?
Order via the webshop with volume discount, or request a quote for a fixed series; then we reserve stock for you. Companies order on account with a purchase order, and for a different size or magnetization we think along about customization. Business ordering.
When will my order be shipped?
Ordered and paid for before 16:00 on business days, it will be shipped the same business day if in stock. Free shipping within the Netherlands from €45. Consumers have a 30-day cooling-off period.
